The French Touch in LaLiga: A Decade of Stunning Goals (2015-2025)

The French Revolution in LaLiga
When we talk about French influence in Spanish football, it’s not just about Zidane’s era anymore. The past decade (2015-2025) has seen an extraordinary crop of French talent lighting up LaLiga week after week. As someone who’s analyzed every touch, pass, and shot in Spain’s top division for ten years, I can confidently say the French contingent has raised the technical bar significantly.
Technical Brilliance Meets Flair
What makes French goalscorers special? Three things:
- Audacity - That cheeky Panenka from Griezmann against Barcelona in 2018
- Precision - Benzema’s 87th minute winner in El Clásico 2022
- Improvisation - Ousmane Dembélé’s backheel flick against Sevilla last season
The numbers don’t lie - French players accounted for 18% of all Goal of the Month winners since 2015, despite representing only 7% of foreign players.
Game-Changing Moments
Some of these goals didn’t just look pretty - they shifted momentum:
- Nabil Fekir’s 30-yard rocket that secured Betis’ European spot in 2021
- Ferland Mendy’s unlikely solo run against Valencia that kept Real Madrid’s title hopes alive
- William Saliba’s last-gasp header for Atlético that sparked their improbable comeback
As I often tell my students at the London Football Academy: “The best goals aren’t just scored - they’re timed.”
What Next?
With young talents like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni coming through, the French connection shows no signs of weakening. Though if you ask me, we might need to expand this list to 50 goals soon…
