Claudio Ranieri Declines Italy National Team Offer, Prefers to Stay at Roma as Advisor

Claudio Ranieri Stays Loyal to Roma
In a move that might surprise some but makes perfect sense to those who know him, Claudio Ranieri has reportedly declined an offer to take over as manager of the Italian national team. The 72-year-old tactician, currently serving as an advisor at AS Roma, was approached after Luciano Spalletti’s dismissal.
The Weight of Commitment
Ranieri, known affectionately as ‘The Tinkerman’ during his Premier League days, has always been a man of his word. His reluctance to leave Roma stems from a deep sense of loyalty to the club where he previously managed during the 2009-10 season. As someone who’s analyzed football decisions for years, I can appreciate when a man prioritizes integrity over ambition.
Italy’s Managerial Conundrum
With Spalletti out, FIGC president Gabriele Gravina had identified Ranieri as his preferred candidate, alongside Stefano Pioli. While Pioli remains an option, losing Ranieri is a blow to their plans. The former Leicester City manager’s experience in international football (he coached Greece briefly in 2014) and his ability to unite squads made him an attractive choice.
Why This Makes Sense for Roma
From a tactical perspective, keeping Ranieri benefits Roma immensely. His wisdom helps balance the often volatile nature of Serie A management. For a club trying to build sustainable success under Daniele De Rossi’s leadership, having Ranieri’s steady hand in the background could prove invaluable.
What do you think about Ranieri’s decision? Should he have taken the national team job? Let us know in the comments.

Italiens Verlust, Romas Gewinn
Was meint ihr? Hätte er zusagen sollen? Kommentare willkommen!
